The decor challenge
Dr. Kim Ireland asked me if I could create a painting for her husband's 50th. "I don't have a clue what he'd like...but go meet him at our house and...talk to him." So, I did.
I met Kevin at their Lakeshore home in Oakville...big new home...with a great big Dane dog named Zeus. While I followed Kevin through their stunning interiors of marble floors, Greek columns and their eclectic blend of antique and modern furniture styles, Zeus lumbered behind me. I didn't know right away what I was going to paint for Kevin from Kim, until I sat down to start developing some concepts at home...and started flipping through the on-site photos I took for reference. And there he was...Zeus lying down beside the Queen Anne sofa with red satin cushions, Zeus's wagging tail beside the antique Chinese display case, Zeus and Kim photos beside the teal polka dotted lounge chair in the entertainment room...Zeus, Zeus, Zeus.
After I sent Kim my first 3 concept sketches to discuss ideas and direction for the piece that would be displayed in the enclave immediately after the double door foyer entry ...Kim expressed "of course!! The painting has to be of Zeus. He is our rescue puppy! We found him by sheer luck!"
This is a life-sized portrait of their Great Dane named Zeus.
Not sure who rescued who. Kevin is a retired Police Chief and Kim is a Doctor, Zeus is their rescue baby. They are a happy family of three...unbound spirits in love. Their space loves them back with their intertwined love story of Zeus that greets them in their foyer. Every. day!
