Newlywed's 80's town-home needed a new hipped up vibe and style spark
The decor challenge
After Stephanie and Lukas got engaged, they invited me over to see their townhome and to fill me in on their wedding and honeymoon plans over a glass of vino. Living close to the heart of Oakville, Ontario - close enough to downtown entertainment for fun Friday nights with friends and access to the 401 for quick commuting - these young professionals had started some update reno's and stopped. "Where do we go from here?" The challenge for many first-time home-owners (let alone the rest of us at any age in life) is creating an decor design plan that allows playful discovery of personal style and a foundation to build on.
"We love to entertain. And our open living room space is where we relax with our friends. But...it's....we have no idea where to start. Do we buy our furniture first and then decorate? We need everything, but budget challenged." Kudos for these two - they wanted to plan their home improvement in stages. After learning they had ordered a modern charcoal coloured sofa and chair set, I asked what they thought about the idea of having a custom painting for their space to kick-start the creation of their "feeling destination". (Which is hipster love-nest! :) The custom painting would provide the jshooojsh they needed for the space and they could pull any colour combinations from it for fabric and area rugs in the future and the collaborative process would give them colours to choose from and start identifying their tastes a couple.
And the "feeling destination" of their painting was born. "The big love painting" not only captures their journey with the ribbons of love, dark, light, passion, with soft layers of vibrant colours...but also embedded secret love messages for the newlyweds eyes only.
When this couple steps into their open concept second floor...they step into a place that celebrates their souls with memories and connections to all the people in their lives.
